Inhouse lawyers slam firms for inflexible fee arrangements
A survey of 300 inhouse lawyers attacks stubborn attitude of firms

A US survey of 300 inhouse counsel has criticised law firms’ inflexibility when billing clients.

The annual Managing Outside Counsel Survey by the American Corporate Counsel Association/Global Corporate Counsel Association suggests that law firms that offer alternative billing arrangements will benefit by setting themselves apart from most of their rivals.

Those inhouse lawyers interviewed are unhappy that law firms don’t share their concerns about billing and are stubborn when asked to be flexible.

“The [clients’ unhappiness] is a significant opportunity for those law firms who are willing to work with their clients to align their financial interests and create more cost-effective solutions,” states the report.
